tanstaafl, like you, I tend to view the Notre Dame invitation as a star power thing. The school wanted a celebrity speaker and they got one. The fact that he’s against one of the basic tenets of their faith, and that he’s rescinded the freedom of conscience choice for Catholics, which will probably result in the closing of Catholic hospitals (only women are entitled to freedom of choice; religious people just have to shut up and fall in line) doesn’t mean much to them.
And, because this is a celebrity happening, not a real event, there will be no questions allowed, and any protests will be quickly muffled—hey, you don’t diss a celeb! Which is why Catholics aren’t being more “joyful”, and approaching it with more “confidence in battle”. Our opponents don’t believe in open battles. They’re more into the Gramscian technique of taking over our institutions: schools, media, culture, and then telling us it’s all about a woman’s right to choose (remember, religious groups do NOT have freedom of choice), as if a child were a handbag, or a lipstick, that one can choose, or not, as one wishes, and, anyway, we just think every sperm is sacred, we hate women, what have we done for social justice lately, hey, what about Bush?
We need to start getting “Wise as serpents” in this battle. Blind hope isn’t going to help us much.
