I hate to throw cold water on the concluding line about how thrilled the founders would be with America choosing a black — or half-black president, but in fact, many of the founders owned black slaves, and their descendants fought a war to protect slavery, which kind of suggests to me that they would not necessarily view a black president as a “realization of their finest dreams.”
