Pretending that health care, education and energy policy are not critical to the future economy of the USA is what got us into this mess. The GOP has been allowed to set the agenda for decades, and did nothing to balance the budget when holding the levers of power. Health care costs have gone up, along with the numbers of uninsured, energy policy has been an unmitigated tragedy, and public education policy has been ignored in favor of privatization.
The plain fact is that we must do something about health care costs, education and energy, or there truly is no hope of escaping a downward spiral. Simply saying “NO” is not going to help the USA move forward.
If the GOP can’t even propose a sensible alternative (and all evidence to date indicates this to be true), there is little hope for Republicans. Obama has proposed policies designed to provide long-term stability and growth, leading to prosperity for America. If the GOP can only say “NO”, then that is the same thing they will hear from voters. When it comes to electing GOP lawmakers – the people will just say “NO”.
