Guilty: Muslim Family in Canada Convicted in Honor Killings
The coverage of the Shafia family murders were quite extensive and deliberate here in Canada especially during the trial phase itself. Journalists left no doubt that the accused parties and the dead females were all Muslims from the same family structure. Several highranking Muslims, i.e., Ottawa imam Sammy Metwally, came forward and discussed the crises in the Canadian Muslim world which led to these reprehensible acts and others and declared that new immigrants to Canada were required to honour the Canadian way of life and culture and that crimes were not in keeping with the Muslim way of life. As to that last statement, one must be aware that passages in the Koran and subsequent Hadiths are subject to various interpretations including some which we, Canadians, find the most compellingly evil.
