Guilty: Muslim Family in Canada Convicted in Honor Killings
Yes, “the press”. After the Shafia verdict, the Canadian, Jewish-owned National Post (NP) newspaper, whose own, superlative reporter/columnist, Christie Blatchford, had courageously covered this story from day one, copped out. I wrote the following comment at “small dead animals”, a Canadian blog, re the NP’s despicable loss of nerve:
“The National Post’s editorial, ‘Guilty as Charged’ is a disappointing—actually, disgusting, appeasing, PC—cop out.
“From the penultimate paragraph: ‘Indeed, in the days to come, it will be tempting to permit our accumulated frustration and sorrow to erupt in passionate debates about multiculturalism, immigration and the parlous situation of many girls and women in certain communities. But it is also important to remember that the vast majority of immigrants from Middle Eastern and South Asian nations never perpetrate such grisly crimes, regardless of their background. Families such as the Shafias, whose members give in to the evil impulse to kill their own, are the exception.’
“Well, isn’t that just fine? And the NP’s cop out entirely begs the question. Is killing one’s own family members the only issue concerning Islam’s backwardness and brutality? What about the countless women and girls, like the terrified Shafia women, who live as captives? Maybe they’re not dead, but they’re certainly not free. NP: Nothing to see here. Move on. What about all the ‘honour’ killings, like the murders after the Danish cartoon fiasco and 9/11? NP: Nothing to see here. Move on.
“These ‘honour’ killings are ‘individual’ the NP implies. I’m really disappointed at this enabling of a brutal and deadly dangerous culture. And, yes, despite the grovelling of the NP, we should, indeed, ‘in the days to come . . . be tempt[ed] to permit our accumulated frustration and sorrow [and ANGER] to erupt in passionate debates about multiculturalism, immigration and the parlous situation of many girls and women in certain communities.’ If SUN News [Canada’s much less politically correct news organization] does the same ‘dhimmi’ dance, God help us.’ (SUN seems to be OK.)
In contrast to the NP’s advice, we in the West most definitely need a serious debate about “multiculturalism, immigration and the parlous situation of many girls and women in certain communities”. And we need to vigorously both reject multiculturalism and protect the Judeo-Christian values that are the foundation of the rule of law in the West. Giving special status to the barbarism of Islamic culture is suicide. It’s about time our elites smartened up to that fact.
P.S. In Toronto’s public schools, anything to do with Christianity—the very foundation of the Canadian public school systems—is strictly verboten. But, on Friday afternoons, many cafeterias are turned into mini-mosques: in direct contravention of the board’s explicit “Equity Policies”, imams are allowed to conduct Muslim prayers, with Muslim boys and girls excused from the classes they’d normally be attending. (One can only imagine the havoc this wreaks on the timetable and teachers’ obligations to cover the curriculum with all students.) The Muslim students are further segregated: boys at the front, girls at the back. Beyond that beyond are menstruating girls, who must sit at the very back, excluded from the prayers. (I know of Jewish teachers at “Little Mosque in the Cafeteria” schools transferring out. I use that term because Canada’s government-funded, uber left-wing broadcaster, the CBC, has a sycophantic show called, “Little Mosque on the Prairie”: Funny? NOT.) And the equally uber left-wing, “inclusive, tolerant, dedicated to equality” Toronto school board allows this, on the basis of “accommodating” the needs of diverse religions. Of course, no other religion is similarly accommodated. In fact, Christianity is treated exactly like Cinderella before the ball. The hypocrisy in all of this is mind boggling—and altogether unacceptable.
Again, it’s about time our elites smartened up to that fact.
