Guilty: Muslim Family in Canada Convicted in Honor Killings
You are obviously NOT Canadian. The Canadian media never referred to this case as domestic violence. The Crown’s whole case rested on the concept of honour in Afghanistan and the Afghani tribal belief system which encourages the killing of any female suspected of tarnishing the family’s honour.
Canadian juries are most certainly not “challenge[d] for[sic] supplying a verdict after only a few hours”. Canadian juries take as long as they need to reach a decision. In this particular case the jury was sequestered for only a short time because they reached consensus very quickly. Finally, their decision was based on Canadian law – not American law – 25 years is the maximum sentence in Canada – no matter how long the jury is out. This is Canada and we do things our way.
