I’ve been listening to the Canadian media and noticing how this tragedy is slowly being disassociated from anything Islamic. First is the jury challenge for supplying a verdict after only a few hours, and then the language which is changing to suggest this is domestic violence rather than Islam approved honour killing. While I’m delighted they were found them guilty on all counts, the judgement should have included confiscation of all their assets, and deportation of the entire family. This would have sent a huge signal to the Muslim community that these killings will not be tolerated. My greatest hope is that despite the media downplaying this to domestic violence, that there will be some dialogue to realistically identify and thus begin to eliminate this blight from our country. There is always hope!
