I just want to throw this out there: 270-268 wins are not safe. If even one elector in the majority turns unfaithful the election is thrown to the House of Representatives, with the faithless elector’s choice qualifying for the ballot. In 2000, Bush won unofficially 271-267, but the official result was 271-266-1, Lieberman having the 1. Now a faithless elector pledged to the losing candidate means nothing, neither does a faithless elector in a landslide, but a faithless elector that throws the election to the House is a recipe for chaos. Worse yet is a pair of faithless electors reversing the outcome. Watch out for Occupy the Electoral College.
