John B – an empty suit became President for the same reason a gullible simpleton did – because he’d been preceded in office by a disastrous Republican. Ford wasn’t particularly effective, and the Nixon stench and the Mayaguez and his own verbal missteps during the race (the “it’s a sin to the press only if the GOP guy says it” applied at least as far back as Ford, even George Romney) shot him down.
Bush 43 was a disaster (no other way to put it, he was absurdly loyal to failed subordinates, he lacked his father’s experience in handling the levers of power, he ran full-speed into stupid policies but stumbled halfheartedly when he was right) and Obama got a tongue-bath from the media throughout his campaign. It’s easy to see why people would vote for him.
That isn’t to say they were right, or that Obama’s not a looming disaster, but it’s still easy to see why people would vote for him.
And it’s ‘martial law’. I’m not expecting it to come to that. I don’t want to see Obama “fail”, that is, be dragged out of the Oval Office by his feet because he sits in the middle of the carpet all day playing with marbles. I want to see his policies forcefully rejected by the American people, I want to see him regarded with sufficient derision that the electorate will find it necessary to throw a bunch of Dems out of Congress in 2010 to contain him.
