I’m always a little amused at those who complain about the Republican ‘B team’ candidates. Hey, you hand-wringing sideliners — where IS your A team, anyways? Oh right, on the sidelines next to you.

In a year when Obama is vulnerable, the economy is down, the country is in trouble, and people want real change, Jeb Bush, Haley Barbour, Chris Christie, Rudy Giuliani, and so on aren’t running. Why? They have various reasons, so they say, but the unstated reason is the elephant in the room: they don’t think they can win, and so they don’t want to sully their political reputations.

To heck with that. As the young woman said in the movie Chariots of Fire, you can’t win if you don’t run. I might not be completely happy with Mittens, Newt and Religious Rick, but they’re the ones who are out there, and one of them is going to get my vote in November.

Mr. Jeb Bush: sit down, be quiet, and stay home. Don’t bother coming to the convention, even if we don’t have a nominee at that time, you won’t be wanted. Certainly not by me.
