aramkr: You’re right, any half-wit could write liberal orthodoxy, just like any halfwit could write conservative orthodoxy. What’s hard is understanding people’s real, uncaricatured, positions and engaging them so that (1) they can understand better where you’re coming from; and (2) you can understand better where they’re coming from. Radicals on both side are foreclosing on the debate to take refuge in safe comfortable echo chambers, and it’s really really sad.
