It is easy to dismiss the archbishop as a dottering old Lefty, but what he said is a straw in the wind. No, it won’t happen now, but come back in 30 years — when Muslims represent some large part of the population, and their cities are “no-go” areas for the police — and his idea will not seem so foreign. It will be pitched as a way to achieve social “peace” and will be a milepost (apologies to Sayyid Qtub) on the road to dhimmitude. In a self-confident society, the archbishop would be stripped of his office, horsewhipped in the streets, and put on the first boat to Pakistan.
