There was a history of beatings of Aasiya Hassan, and, reportedly, what precipitated the final atrocity was that she had obtained a protective order and, a week before she was slaughtered, filed for divorce.
The horrendous acts of her husband cannot be strictly characterized as an Islamic (dis)honor killing. It’s an old story, unstable man challenged in his control of a woman.
The problem for Aasiya may have been that, by outing her abuser, she also would have destroyed the reputation of her husband and business partner and threatened her dream of a vibrant Bridges TV cable network dedicated to American Muslims.
