Romney is definitely a smart guy. He graduated as the valedictorian of Brigham Young. That may be an even greater accomplisment than doing so well at Harvard.

My advice to him would be to talk about his life journey to conservatism. He could say that like many, he was attracted by the causes of liberalism when he was younger, even up to the point where he ran for senator. But as he worked in business, and as he raised his family, it became more and more clear that the principles of the Founding Fathers, which we now call Conservatism, are the principles that work best to make the country stong and the people prosperous.

And that long-term conversion, in concert with his experience learning about the factors that turn businesses around, and implementing successful turnarounds for many companies, are the twin pillars that will allow him reverse the tide of the statist trend that is swallowing the country. So, the natural conservatism of the family values he was taught as a boy are now matched by political conservatism he has learned as a man.

There probably isn’t a word of truth in that, but hey, when has he ever let honesty and integrity ever stand in his way.
