You should NEVER try to “educate” a party establishment in the middle of an election year.
Popular insurgencies by the base never succeed in anything but splitting the party and causing it to lose the general election: 1968 (Dem), 1976 (GOP), 1980 (Dem), 1988 (GOP), all had insurgent candidates who were beloved by the base running against the “establishment” candidate. None succeeded. But the party lost.
