Judaism is about a lot more than politics. Politics are trivial compared to pursuing justice, glorifying G-d’s name, and perfecting the world.
Sure, I find the political views of the other people in my synagogue wrong and illogical. But I have no difficulty recognizing them as fellow Jews, struggling to make a good community and world. I (faintly) hope to influence their political views, but mainly I just want to support them as fellow Jews – and get the same from them.
I hope you will rethink retreating to the South and away from your fellow Yidden. You are more than simply Republican. You may not quite be able to put your finger on it, but you’ll feel something wrong when you’re out hunting deer Saturday morning with your new friends.
