Brilliant analysis. The only thing I would change in your original story is that what the alarmists really want is for all doctors to die and the entire medical profession to wither away. Only then, when man is back in a pristine state of equilibrium with nature qua nature, when we have been reduced to our hunter gatherer roots, will they be satisfied. Their philosophical roots are manifestly anti-technology, anti-progress, and ultimately anti-man.
