In a Communist society, the only rich are the party apparatchiks. Governmental power is the key to wealth, even if it is a shabby kind of wealth in comparison to the real thing that capitalism produces. But then, it’s not how rich you are. It’s whether you’re richer than everyone else. The heady tastes of power and superiority trump all.
