I think Rick nails it – the party needs a spokesperson both on point and that can catch the public’s attention, and all the Republican party has right now is Limbaugh. Is he polarizing? Absolutely, but the White House picked the fight. Rush is not under the kind of constraints they are, and he’s now more focused than ever on spending three hours a day deconstructing their arguments and policies. It was a dangerous move by the lib brain trust to goad him.
And while Democrats despise Rush, there are a lot of Republican moderates who are not fans of him either. Can he get passed their prejudice to make the conservative case? The Dem plan is to get moderates to either leave the party or undermine the true believers on the right wing. Listen to Frum and Brooks, Parker and Noonan; they’re some of the rebels leading the sabotage. Ironically, only a few months ago we were talking about conservatives abiding moderates as a big tent philosophy, but now you have moderates agitating for conservatives to be kicked out!
Can’t we all just get along?
