You (and Mr. Bawer) may have to face the fact that you have two choices here — a bad one and a worse one. Stay in Europe and be “forced back into the closet” (if that is possible now, given that his marriage is now public record) or worse, or come to America, and fight to keep his partner here.
His partner could try and try to gain asylum status, being a refugee from Islamophobic persecution. While this admittedly is normally a subject to which our leftish media would normally be sympathetic, in reality, he is likely to gain little publicity or sympathy, since our media, like Europe’s, is more afraid of getting their heads chopped off by Jihadists than by defending gays who will not resort to violence.
