Vinividividi’s post is very interesting. Much of what he says also applied to the old Soviet Union. They didn’t get that an open society, with material incentives, intellectual freedom, and an entrepreneurial economy are the necessary environment for scientific and technological development. Hence, they just kept coming back to the West to catch up on the latest developments, they did very little on their own. They also didn’t have a clue how science works.
