Seems like most have missed the import of the “First they came for the…” idea. All of you, even those of you who think this is all “no big deal”, are on the Muslims’ hit list. They just haven’t gotten to you yet. Didn’t the Marxists used to say, “Tell me what you own and I’ll tell you what your politics are”? Now it’s, “Tell me how much about Islam’s historical treatment of non-Muslims you’ve studied, and I’ll tell you what your attitude toward Islam is”. One simply cannot possibly engage in serious, non-conflicted (by money or ideology)study of Islam as a non-Muslim and want to share the same planet with these people.
For people who believe that some Muslims have gotten “used to” the fruits of modern society and don’t want to “turn back the clock”, I have news for you: Muslims in general don’t really have any idea how modern society came about. A Muslim believer thinks that everything that happens is Allah’s will. Do you think they understand that television (to take a superficial example) was the culmination of decades of theoretical and practical scientific work? Even things Muslims WANT to do in the sciences, like develop nuclear weapons, they need to steal from the West because they haven’t got a clue how real science works. If the typical Muslim woke up tomorrow and found himself in the 7th century, I don’t think he’d mind a bit. It’d actually make it easier to be a “good Muslim”, which would increase his chances of going to Muslim heaven, making the 7th century an improvement for him. So you die a little bit younger, who cares when you’ve got the chance for an eternity of sensual delights? For them, material regression isn’t a thing to be feared, it’s a way to increase the chances of winning the Muslim version of Pascal’s Wager.
