EricR – as I indicated above, Mr. Bawer would be forced to leave his partner forever. Under current law, he would not be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. as his partner. Not even to Massachusetts.
The tears being shed here for the plight of European gays — excuse me, gay Europeans — are of the crocodilian variety, because how many of the commenters here would change U.S. immigration policy to recognize same-sex relationships?
