If you’ll excuse a quick reality check here: Mr. Bawer is a U.S. citizen who has chosen to live in Europe, despite this grave threat to his well-being.
Perhaps Mr. Bawer might be so kind as to share why exactly he and his SO have not yet fled the Continent. My own theory, based purely on speculation, is that he chooses to live in Norway because his partner is Norwegian and cannot legally live with him in the U.S., whose immigration laws — unlike Norway’s — prohibit same-sex partner reunification.
Which means Mr. Bawer is one of those who, in Bmoon’s estimation, “taking the axe to the root” of European civilization.
