I appreciate many comments here and very educational for someone without the kinds of experience presented by some here.

I have only gotten into shooting for a few years now. I own two pistols (and a pellet rifle to annoy the geese and shoot coke cans just for fun).

The .22 Browning Buckmark is great to take to the range and I try to get there at least once a month. My wife is dead-on accurate and comfortable with it after only a few times at the range. The ammo is cheap and certainly readily available. Come into my house when she is alone and she can within seconds have the weapon ready to go. 1-2-3 center mass should easily stop an intruder.

I appreciate Oscar the Grumps post about the benefits of a .22 in compentant hands. Also James (22) who lived through a horrible ordeal and survived without firing a shot. In that case, type of weapon did not matter much, I think. He had a deadly weapon which he could use with confidence.

I prefer the Browning 9mm Hi-Power I also own. But is is getting older and no matter how well I clean it when I run 50 rounds I get one or two jams because the shell doesnt eject fully.

So I need a new gun.

I am leaning to a new 9mm. My son and I are both practiced with the Hi-Power already and very comfortable with the gun. We both took the NRA handgun course.

Ammo? Well, I think keeping 100 rounds for each with a couple extra clips is plenty for home defense.

Unless the zombies attack.

Nonetheless we qualify as a pretty decent home militia. We also have Tazer C-2′s and my daughter carries one in her purse at all times.

Any advice from the gun mavens out there?
