Question, supra:

At what point did “Gay” become a noun in the English lexicon?

Answer: In the early 1970s.

Under pressure from its native speakers, English incorporates frequent revisions in usage.

It’s a lot to follow, I know. But do make an effort to keep up. After all, this particular change is at least 40 years old! (For more, see any contemporary dictionary.)
