To 101. Maroto:
The 2nd Amendment can be viewed as one of 2 “structures”. First and the most traditional is that US citizens should be allowed to own weapons that can be used to wage war.(self defense from “criminals” was not the main purpose of the 2nd amendment) IE your really supposed to be able to own pretty much anything and for the most part if you have enough money you can own pretty much anything(even a nuke factory… as long you don’t take any of the nukes). However now many states have heavily limited this to the point in such states/places as NJ and cities like NY and LA/San fran… the only ppl who are allowed to own guns are either cops or political hacks. What great is the fact that many of the most anti-gun/pro-gun control ppl in the government own and carry lots of guns around with them or have armed bodyguards protecting them. Basically saying its ok for them to have guns because their above the rest of us. Now of course their have been some logical limits place on it… such as the limiting of “area effect” weapons IE anything that explodes. I really have no problem with that because its a reasonable limit for the most part because when you put someone on trial for killing ppl you don’t want them to use the excuse that they “didn’t mean to kill those ppl as well”.
The 2nd main line of thinking is that all citizens should be treated equally… thus basically anything that can be used by the government against the citizens in day to day affairs citizens have the right to own and use themselves. IE If guns are banned/limited/etc then all government personal must obey the same rules. So if guns are banned in a select area the police aren’t allowed to own or use guns in that area either. It would be equal rules for all.
The 2nd amendment main purpose was to keep the government in line and prevent dictatorship. Anyone that knows even the most basic history knows that restricting or removing guns from private citizens hands is one of the last steps before someone plans to turn those citizens into slaves. The saying that “History repeats itself” or “Those who don’t know/understand history are doomed to repeat it” are to very classic saying and most of all talk about “gun control”.
Need we only look at england to see the slow slope of taking guns away of citizens as they are repeatably told “this will be the last ban etc, etc, etc,” of course until the next ban. Not to long ago they tried to pass a law requiring that everyone get a permit to own…. knives of a 9″ blade or more(think it was 9″ but basically it required that any chef need a permit to own his knives/use them). They have managed to banned swords even collector swords in most parts of england. The simple fact is that could very easily happen here in the US and we are on the same slow slide to it happening.
