One European prophet foresaw the present predicament coming years ago. The hardbitten ex-atheist British journalist Malcolm Muggeridge, who converted late in his life to Christianity, said:
“One of the peculiar sins of the twentieth century which we’ve developed to a very high level is the sin of credulity. It has been said that when human beings stop believing in God they believe in nothing. The truth is much worse: they believe in anything.”
That’s the perfect description of the fatuous credulity of multiculturalism, and perfectly explains why the secularist left, repeating history of a generation ago, have no moral compass on the threat of Islamic fascism. They seem to have a death wish. For them, the only evil is who they really are (or their forefathers.) They are the clueless, ungrateful, self-destructing, inheritors of a democratic liberal tradItion that did not spring from Marx and Darwin, nor even from the secularist Enlightenment, but from the Reformation. Like the grotesquely spoiled heirs of a great magnificent enterprise who have left it in utter ruins, they’ve not only squandered the cultural wealth they inherited but did not create, but they’ve also hated and despised the very precepts that it took to get there. They insanely want the fruit by cutting off the root.
Finally, and let me say this with all gravity and sensitivity possible, it is ironic that gays are some of the first to begin experiencing the loss of true liberal tolerance. In great part, it was they who were at the forefront of taking the axe to the root of that great, magnificent shade tree.
