Sorry to gang up on you Mary, but while its true that the US went to war only after Pearl Harbor and Germany declared war on the US only days afterward, why did Germany do so?

The answer that tends to be overlooked is that America was buttressing its democratic ally with massive supplies–including war goods. And, by the way, were loosing thousands of merchant sailors in so doing.

Why? Was it to make a buck? That would be quite an act of brinksmanship considering the risk of instigating war.

Maybe the US didn’t want to see that which the country represented get swallowed by its antithesis. While the devine is rarely seen–when it is–it rises from the muck.
