What I do not see anyone really commenting on though is the tyrant would not have the capacity to do a whole lot were it not for a congress which continues to allow the bureaucratic state to expand. While they must have thought themselves clever that by doing things through the bureaucracy they would be insulated from political liability while enjoying the “benefits” of satisfying donors through “regulation” (laws renamed), they managed to massively expand the executive and create the capacity to rule as a tyrant with little interference from congress.
Face it, there is not a whole lot he cannot do now.
And, believe me, it will get much, much worse in terms of the tyrant exercising this illegitimate power.
