I happen to be lucky enough to live far out in the country, therefore crime is low but it does occasionally strike, as it did when my nearest neighbor who lives about half a mile away was robbed. One day when I was traveling home from Ft. Lewis (yes, I’m a Soldier) the sheriff’s deputy flagged me down to ask me if I had heard of any building sites in the area that had been robbed (primarily for copper.) I told him that I hadn’t but as we were talking he kindly informed me that since we are so far out in the country and local law enforcement is (perennially) understaffed (where do my tax dollars go?) that it would take over an hour at best for a 911 emergency response. He then went on to illuminate me on the fact that for all intents and purposes, I’m on my own. That is the primary reason why I keep firearms, as it is ultimately my responsibility to protect my family and property, and that I have no desire to be a victim. If you don’t want to take the responsibility to defend yourself then that’s your prerogative, but stay the hell out of my business and quit trampling on my right to self-defense. I seriously doubt you’d come running to my aid (or anyone else’s, for that matter) if, say, some gangbangers started roughing me up, what would you do anyway, call 911 and wait for an hour? Why don’t you do everyone a service and put those “GUN FREE ZONE” signs around your home, so that the criminals know who to safely rob.
As Mr. T so succinctly put it; “FOOL!”
