I’m not sure you understand the nature of the battle. It’s not whether Dr. Swamy’s views are correct or even reasonable; it is whether he has the right to hold such an opinion (or any opinion other faculty members don’t approve of) without fear of being sacked. The battle is about academic free speech. Indeed this opinion of his was not even expressed in his capacity as a Harvard professor, but in an op-ed in an Indian newspaper.
