My dad always bought Ford or Mercury cars and they were well-made and lasted at least 10 years. The Ford Taurus we bought kept dying when we were out of town. We had many towing and repair charges until one mechanic was determined to find out the cause. He found a bare wire in the gas tank! When the car warmed up (out of town) the car died. We called Ford and were told they could not help with repair bills because there was no recall for this problem, even though other cars had the same problem. Finally, our repair shop got a notice from Ford that there “might” be a recall. It never happened. I called them again, asking if they would rather make a recall or be sued by someone whose car blew up, causing death. A bare wire in a gas tank is very dangerous. They told me to save my bills, and consider a Ford when we traded cars. I replied that I would never look at another Ford to purchase, because they don’t stand behind their cars, and don’t inspect poor design.

PS…. they never asked for the bills I had saved for towing or repair. Hmmmmmmmmmm.
