Sphere asked “what about fairness”? Is fairness the reason others should be taxed to oblivion so someone can continue to be a deadbeat and not pay their mortgage they couldn’t afford? Is it fair that our grandchildren should be strapped with ruinous debt so the venal politicians can push their insane boondoggles in the guise of a stimulus?
The left doesn’t “get the free market”. If it did it would understand that raising corporate and capital gains taxes will push the teetering economy over the edge into the abyss. Kill the golden goose of investment and we’re all screwed.
Funny you mention government as being the answer for disaster relief. Long before the Bush administration was blamed for failing to respond to Katrina, big government liberals, Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco sat on their hands while New Orleans sunk. The flood was largely caused by the idiotic channel the Army Corps of Engineers built to divert Mississippi River water.
Slavery was not caused by capitalism but by a feudal plantation system imported from Europe. It was ended by an idea spawned in the churches of New England and carried out by an army equipped by the dynamism of American industrialism, even as World War 2 was.
