The numbers suggest the author’s conclusions are reasonable, yet I don’t believe they tell the whole story. I believe if Ford made better cars, that the non-boycotting populace would overwhelm the few churls who are. There are more than 300 million people in the US, another 30 million in Canada, and many millions in Europe and China, where Ford also has a presence. Ford not only lost my custom with the first car I ever bought, a Ford Pinto Wagon, I abandoned the entire US auto industry– and I’ve never looked back. My father-in-law never had a (US) car that made it to 100K; I’ve never put a car to rest *under* 189K (other than the Pinto, which made it to 80K). The Tempo? Topaz? Taurus? Terrible cars. Cruddy mpg, miserable durability. If Ford had come out with the Prius instead of Toyota, they’d be minting money. Instead, they put hybrid technology into overpowered, overweight SUVs and go from 15mpg to 16mpg. Henry Ford was an ignorant fool (proven in a court of law when he brought suit against someone who made that claim) and the people at the top of Ford now are continuing in that glorious tradition. Move over, Montgomery Ward, here comes Ford to join you in the corporate graveyard.
