The only thing wrong with Ahmadinejad in Khamenei’s eyes is that he’s a loose cannon: his antics endanger the mullah’s grip on power and their eventual goals — nuclear power and the return of the Mahdi. I think it would be a mistake to interpret this as any sort of a resurgence by “moderates.” It’s just the hard-liners smacking down a smaller group of even harder-liners.
