HBO Presents: Conservatives as Ignorant Racists Who Cling to God and Guns
Hmm, perhaps David is on to something? Our friend is correct that totalitarian states – by definition are ‘right’ of the spectrum; however, might you concede that Mao, Castro, Chavez, Mussolini, and even the evil one, Hitler, advocated for socialist (read: left)doctrine to energize the masses to – in all cases cited – over throw the previous monarchy or dictatorial regimes? So, promising the masses that the poor would be remembered and taken care of, that is was the elites that caused all the suffering, that government ‘owed’ you….allowed these folks to thrive and take power; with this ‘mandate’ they swing to absolute power (hence corrupting absolutely)? Why might that be? A prededent we should fear? Hope not.
I am disheartened by many of the posts. I, in my youth, opposed the war in VN and considered myself the ‘enlightened’ of my day. But reality set in – I tried working my way through college, but, nonetheless, ended up in the military. Spent 36 years defending our country; even though my beliefs told me they were often wrong more than they were right in policies – but felt my presence brought some humility and rationality to the action (just because you have silenced a man does not mean you have changed him).
Now, in retirement, having earned my pension, I watch and wonder at people that would no more stand for the nation, preferring to trash it, claim imminent catastrophe, throw brickbats vice solutions, then wait for a handout – often condemning my comrades who do what needs to be done. Then, these beneficiaries of my sacrifice brand me a villain for believing in the founding principles of the nation – no where did the government state a guarantee for happiness – it permitted the pursuit of happiness.
Yes, I am now somewhat conservative. I am proud of our nation, I believe the fundamentals of the nation remain strong and her people will find a way to help each other out of her current crisis – without pet projects and ‘wish lists’ from special interests. I’m a UU’er – so I might be more ‘religious’ than most, and I resent being called sexist, racist, ageist, etc….’cause I don’t vote for the celebrity of either party.
As to the topic at hand, Pelosi can film what she wishes; I agree that we on the right need to find our message – stay off the ad hominem attacks, and remind people at the end of the day – vote with your head not your guilt.
Many of the above comments to this point are important to discussion; some are just disappointing, and childish….from both sides…
