Obama has one simple problem. Until the inauguration he never face a tough question, other than Joe the plumber’s. He doesn’t know how to handle it. His vision is that of a god-emperor, not subject to criticism. During the last two years, the media obliged. The lapdogs created the Obama legend. They polished it and protected it. They promoted it. Now that they are faced with being held responsible, the worship is beginning to crack. “Journalists” are beginning to ask some questions. The softballs are getting harder. The leg tingle may be gone.
Obama’s vanity is his dominant characteristic. He sees himself as the personification of the American dream and Horatio Alger myth. No question is allowed. The media’s instinct for self preservation and self promotion is now setting in. Gibbs wouldn’t be a problem if he didn’t have to tie himself in knots trying to reconcile Obama’s god complex with a panicking press. Pelosi wouldn’t be a problem if Obama could conceive of a Democratic leader not blinded by his brilliance. Bill Clinton made it through eight years on smoke and mirrors. Obama just has the mirror.
