How does this pass as journalism? One paragraph devoted to the country that attacked us–Afghanistan! And a summary which states, “Afghanistan is no longer domineered by twisted al-Qaedists and the repressive Taliban regime. These two pernicious movements were overthrown in 2001 and have been relegated to the desolate mountains that border Pakistan.” No mention whatsoever to the fact that Afghanistan is still the largest producer of opiates in the world, has a failing government, a resurgent Taliban causing great dismay to the populace, and, now we hear, a realistic statement from Sec. of Defense Robert Gates that we’re no longer pursuing democracy in Afghanistan as our primary target (neutralizing the Taliban is). Pucker up, Nicolas, I can’t wait for part 3: Bush’s Domestic Excess!
