I lived through the ice storm here in Lexington (soon to be renamed Mexington), KY. The real problem now is that trees are down on the power lines and across the roads in the rural areas (the ice is gone). I was very fortunate in the fact that I was without power for less than a whole day. Many other people will remain without power for weeks; their situation is dire.
However, the culture of this state will prevail in the end. We, as good Americans, and as good country people, help out our neighbors. Churches have been opened as shelters for folks without power. The line crews were on the spot here in town and will surely move into the rural areas ASAFP. We went throught this same mess about 5 years ago with an ice storm. We recovered then; we’ll recover now!
I don’t think Obama doesn’t care about Kentucky. He just has a lot on his plate right now. I’m not apologizing for his behavior! I’ll bet you that a lot of Kentuckians are sure glad that they have their Bibles and guns to cling to right now!
Anybody want to buy some firewood? We dang sure got lots here now!
Hopefully, FEMA, the KY National Guard, and the power companies will get things under control shortly and help to get the power on for those less fortunate than myself.
Please realize that this was an ice storm. There really isn’t much advance warning for those kinds of disasters-in stark contrast to a hurricane. Look, if somebody told me (hillbilly that I am) that a tornado 50 miles across was heading for my home, do you think for a moment that I would just go get a bottle of ripple and wait it out? Nope. Head for the high ground with all speed. And if you decide to ride out hurricanes, don’t cry for the gubment to bail you out!
