It has been said before: Most American Jews are very religious, but their religion is not Judaism, it’s liberalism.
To many of its founders and early supporters, Israel was not just supposed to be a homeland for Jews; it was also supposed to be a socialist nation. The founding of Israel was very closely tied to communism. With that in mind, it is easy to understand why many liberal/left-wing Jews believe that Israel has lost her soul.
