To those who think it was no big deal: The problem is that you simply have no idea just what a living recipient had to do to get the award. The stories of their heroism are simply incredible and moving. If I’m President, I don’t send my VP in my place. They are my first visit, period. If I can’t honor their heroic service above all other things, how can I ask others to serve me as CinC? The military does not serve the VP. They serve the Prez.
#38 Robert Hurley – The idea that this is less important than the pressing issues of the day is just foolish. Do not confuse the urgent with the important. Honoring our customs, traditions, and our heroes is important. These are the foundations of our society.
