tanstaafl,
“The inspiring principle of those who wrote the Constitution and, previous to that, the Declaration of Independence is that each human being’s individual rights have nothing to do with government providing them but, rather, that they are “inalienable”. That means that they are yours as a function of simply being. (even you)
Those rights would be, primarily, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
B. Hussein Obama (or no President) has nothing to do with the status of anyone’s “rights”, beyond configuring a government that “ensures” those rights. Being President should be somewhat boring, not being a rock star to the brain dead.”
I’m glad we at least can agree on this. It’s a start.
“The citizen was never intended to serve the state, it’s the other way around.”
Here there is room for argument. We each bear some obligation to serve the state, even if the purpose of the state is only to secure our life, liberty and happiness. If no citizens served the state, it would cease to exist, and to perform the function of safeguarding these rights. The state and the citizenry must serve each other to succeed.
Anyway, B. Hussein Obama has already reneged on his sworn #1 priority to get that ole boy, Osama bin laden. And some of the tax stuff will have to wait. And maybe he’ll keep in place (calling it something else) some of that
Nasty interrogation stuff that may have actually been working for 7 years or so
Just wait and see. There is no point in getting all upset now about how Bush screwed up. Obama hasn’t been sworn in yet.
That should send some more Leftoids up a tree.
Where they belong.
Yes, sometimes it takes a climber to get the job done. I’ll be nice enough not to share my thoughts on where wingnuts go when they die.
Peace.
