Lincoln actually WON a war. He was socially liberal, and economically liberal (nationalized the rail system, put into place the first income tax). The conservative South hated Lincoln. Lincoln was competent and loved by the (non-traitorous) American people. Gee, but other than that….
Isn’t it amazing how conservatives eventually try to claim liberals as their own?
