To MOHAMMED # 46. Re Ann 141. Ann is quite right. Palestine did not exist before Israel which was once the ‘Kingdom of Israel’ in the Land of Judea, Homeland of the Jewish people. During the Christ era this land was occupied by the Romans who renamed the land of Judea to Palestine, after the Philistines. Goliath was a Philistine as so Delilah Thus this area has remained under the nameof Palestine for 2000 years, ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and ChristianCrusaders, by the Ottoman Empire and briefly by the British as the British Mandate of Palestine.
Many Arabs lived under the British Mandate when all who lived there behe Arab, Jew,Armenian, Turk was known as a Palestinian. But when Israel was recreated in 1947/48 where she was 2000 years ago before being exiled into the Diaspora by the Romans, all had to revert to their original nationality and Arabs became known as Palestinian/Arabs.Together with Arab emigreits who were sent to Palestine as labourers, it was only under the auspices of Yasser Arafat some sixty years ago that the ‘Palestinian’ was born, whois in fact a Homeless Arab Refugee’ who finally adopted the name of being ‘Palestinian’ in order to claim land in Palestine, formerly Judea/Israel. And this is where the trouble begins because the Jewish people decidedly want to keep their 4000 year old biblical homeland while the Arab Refugeeswish to claim the land as theirs and to destroy Israel as their Covenant demands. Consequently Ann is right, Israel the biblical and historical homeland of the Jews for nearly 4000 years was there long before it was renamed Palestine by the Romans during the Christ era 2000 years ago.
