Well maybe USCRIF can be restarted. I sincerely hope and pray that this will be the case.
This is incannily like a 1961 blunder by JFK at the insistence of Robert McNamara.
When the French left Indochina in 54, Ike Eisenhower and Matt Ridgway knew that had a problem looming. So they carefully inserted a single regiment of Marines into Northeast Thailand. This interdicted the Ho Chi Minh Trail AND
served as reinforcement to any across-the-DMZ conventional invasion attempt. Had this single regiment remained in place, the war we knew could not have happened. Enemy capabilities were effectively reduced to assasinations and the like.
USCRIF has served the same type of purpose. Freedom of Religion is to jihadists what H2O was to the wicked witch. Their theo-cultural pathology cannot withstand it and USCRIF was clearing the way for Freedom of Religion.
Without it the Bad Guys have a privileged sanctuary.
If USCRIF is not reinstated, we are going to pay a very steep price.
Thank You Ms Chesler for this information. I never learned about that regiment of Marines until it way way too late. Knowing about this debacle will get me to try to round up some help in reinstateing a vital element.
