Ruben never starts a smart conversation so it never has a chance to go anywhere.
He starts from a position of antagonism, victimization and dogma…and then tries to weave in a little guilt-tripping to gild the silly.
Let’s start by defining terms properly:
1)Border crashers. They are not “illegal immigrants”…they aren’t immigrants at all. They aren’t “undocumented workers”, they are fake documented opportunity grabbers. The term “illegal alien” is technically more correct than the last two, but it is not descriptive enough nor does it instantly remind us of the issue. Border crashers. Period.
2)Small children of border crashers. They do not have the mens rea to have committed a crime themselves and they are given the Hobson’s choice by their border crasher parents to hide out, sneak in, grow up living a lie. They can’t come clean without risking it all for their parents. What a nightmare existence. How do you teach such a child right from wrong, when their entire existence is based upon a pile of lies? Cognitive dissonance from cradle to grave. Many of them…an early grave.
3)Complex monetary issues of cost, opportunity cost, lack of assimilation, money flow out of the country, drug cartel influence, lack of respect and pride in the host country.
4)Security, law enforcement, terrorism, state’s rights.
No serious discussion, no adult conversation can be held…absent the above four paragraphs.
BEFORE…we ever get to the “poor, poor, oppressed, victimized, angelic, no fault of their own” border crashers and their families…we must FIRST work through those four paragraphs.
If we can’t get agreement on the fundamentals of the discussion, then the rather inane frolic through the fantasyland of “cures” is a monumental waste of time.
A cure for symptoms is a band-aid. A proposed cure without diagnosing the disease is malpractice.
I have proposed solutions in another thread. My proposals are not the only ones available…but at least they start AFTER a recognition of the four baseline paragraphs.
Absent that…it’s mindless drivel, in my opinion. Mindless drivel being the starting point for every conversation with Ruben, I’ve found.
