Bill Clinton is the anti-Cal. He’s widely heralded as a “great speaker” but his SOTU speeches were insufferable. He perfected the skill of “talking a lot but saying nothing” that we now see everywhere. Politicians and the media now do little more than focus on the forms of communication (talking, writing) while not providing any substance to the communication. I’m not sure if they work hard at saying nothing or if nothing is all that they have to say, but I suspect it’s the latter.
