Mr Javedanfar, you state: “There is also the question of the Israeli government not wanting to talk to Hamas because it does not want to legitimize the organization.”

Surely you have read and are familiar with the charter of Hamas. There are two direct quotes from their charter that I’d like to state here:

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”

“There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”

Whenever I hear folks like yourself blaming Israel for refusing to talk to Hamas, I remind myself of these two statements quoted directly from Hamas’ own charter. Now, I am not a journalist or opinion writer for any blog or newspaper, and I have no education past an associate’s degree, but even I am smart enough to recognize the naive madness of all of you who chastise Israel for refusing to talk to Hamas. Hamas has clearly and without any room for negotiation stated its goal: A world where Israel does not exist, period. Yet the peace-and-love crowd – which you are obviously a part of – seems to think talking to Hamas will somehow change that stated goal.

I would think that before you go and blame Israel for refusing to talk to Hamas, you should go and blame Hamas for refusing to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist. How anyone can say Israel is wrong for refusing to talk to an enemy which refuses to acknowledge its right to exist and openly calls for its destruction through Islam is beyond me.
