It isn’t to say it was a NO BRAINER, only to point out that liberal ‘facts’ were not facts at all… Of COURSE Saddam worked with Islamic terrorists. They ALL did, because proxy groups attacking in a deniable way was of value to ANY dictator who wanted to avoid being counterattacked by the US.
YOu’re right about all the wahabism and the problems with the regimes we ‘support’. In Pakistan, we have a choice between ‘supporting’ Musharraf or NOT supporting him and letting the Islamists just waltz in and take control of the nukes. There are no other options for us right now, unless YOU’d like to recommend that we OCCUPY a country of 275 million people, the majority of which already hate us.
THAT’s a no brainer. support Musharraf and put off the acquisition by al Qaeda of nukes, while we try to think of other ways to protect ourselves.
Besides, if we dump Musharraf we’ll never get another ally in that region, because they’ll all consider us untrustworthy.
